Thank you for reporting a bug to Unity. We have reviewed the issue carefully, and in this case, the team is unable to prioritize fixing this bug. There are a number of reasons we make this decision, including the impact and severity of the issue across our user and customer base, and the possibility that future plans may solve the problem in a different way, or that a workaround for the bug may be available. Today we will be closing this case. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue, and please let us know if there is anything else that changes the impact or severity of this issue.
Reproduction steps:
1. Open the attached “ExpressionEvaluatorExample.zip” project
2. Open the “ExpressionEvaluator” Scene
3. Open the “Expression Evaluator Example” Window (Test > Expression Evaluator Example)
4. Multi-select all prefab Cubes in the “ExpresionEvaluatorShenanigans” folder
5. Drag the Cubes into the “Root” GameObject in the Hierarchy
6. While the Cubes are selected, In the Inspector Position X value input ‘L(0,9)’
7. In the “Expression Evaluator Example” Window click the first “Output order” button
8. Observe the correct order in the Console
9. Save and reload the Scene
10. In the Hierarchy, select all Cubes again and repeat the 6th step
11. In the “Expression Evaluator Example” Window click the second “Output order” button
12. Observe the Console
Expected result: The “Order you'd expect (by selection)” and “Order you get (by instanceId, which is meaningless)” logs have the same ordering of Cubes
Actual result: The “Order you get (by instanceId, which is meaningless)” log shows the random order of Cubes when ordered by ‘instanceId’
Reproducible with: 2021.3.46f1, 2022.3.54f1, 6000.0.30f1, 6000.1.0a7
Reproducible on: Windows 11
Not reproducible on: no other environment tested
