Unity 6000.2 has reached its end of life and will not receive further updates. If you need additional fixes, please upgrade to a newer Unity version.
Cancelling 6000.1 ports due to end of life
Closed as per new backporting rules
Steps to reproduce:
Create a new Unity project using the Universal 3D template
Install the Visual Effect Graph package
Create a new Visual Effect Graph (Assets > Create > Visual Effects > Visual Effect Graph)
Select "Simple Loop" Visual Effect Template
Open the created Visual Effect Graph
Press the + button in the blackboard
Select Attribute > Float
Enter a very long name and press enter
Observe the Editor
Actual results: Editor hangs and becomes unresponsive indefinitely
Expected results: The attribute is created or a warning/error appears that the attribute name has too many characters
Reproducible with versions: 6000.0.54f1, 6000.1.13f1, 6000.2.0b11, 6000.3.0a3
Tested on (OS): Windows 11, macOS Silicon Sequoia 15.5
Notes:
On Windows 11, the Editor sometimes doesn't hang but starts loading/recompiling upon every mouse click or even the mouse moving, becomes extremely slow
On Windows 11, sometimes after step 8, have to click the arrow button next to the name to expand the Attribute, that results in 100% reproduction in either Editor hanging or getting into a recompile/loading loop
On Mac, the Editor always hangs and becomes unresponsive needing to Force Quit which results in data loss
