Properly truncating long names in dropdown menus will be addressed as a valide, but separate issue as we understand this may differ from your expectations. We will close this case as 'As Designed.' How to reproduce:
1. Create a new Unity project
2. In the Project window, right-click -> Create -> Animation -> Animator Controller
3. Open the created Asset
4. Create at least two states and make a transition between them
5. Select the transition and enter a long string into its name

Expected results: There is a limit on the characters
Actual results: It is possible to enter 1500+ characters

Reproducible with: 6000.0.65f1, 6000.3.3f1, 6000.4.0b3, 6000.5.0a3

Reproducible on: Ubuntu 24, macOS Tahoe 26
Not reproducible on: No other environment tested

Note: There are some minor UI glitches when the name is long
